A myocardial infarction (commonly called a heart attack) is an extremely dangerous condition caused by a lack of blood flow to your heart muscle. The lack of blood flow can occur because of many different factors but is usually related to a blockage in one or more of your heart's arteries.

What is the difference between a heart attack and a myocardial infarction?
Ischemia results when the heart muscle is starved for oxygen and nutrients. When damage or death of part of the heart muscle occurs as a result of ischemia, it's called a heart attack, or myocardial infarction (MI).
Symptoms: 
  • Uncomfortable pressure
  • Fullness
  • Squeezing pain
  • Pain spreading to the shoulders
  • Neck and arms
  • Chest discomfort and light headedness
  • Anxiety / nervousness
  • sweating
